What can I expect at my first appointment?

Complete head and neck assessment where I will check your head and neck for lumps and bumps, moles, spots, pigmentation and record all measurements. I will palpate your lymph nodes and also do an intra oral assessment along with an oral cancer screening. I will chart all your existing teeth, restorations, previously taken radiographs, and do a complete periodontal assessment and charting.


Why do I need to have my teeth cleaned now during Covid-19?

Oral health has been linked to several systemic diseases and worsening of their progression. Therefore now more than ever it is imperative to maintain good oral hygiene by partnering with your hygienist and going for regular oral re-care appointments

What are your covid 19 protocols?

Dentalwise solutions is compliant with state and federal infection control protocols and standards. In addition all treatment will be provided wearing full protective coverings including N 95 masks, full length gowns, and face shields. A face shield will also be offered to willing patients to minimize aerosol spray contamination, high speed suction and disposable prophy cups will be used as well.

In order to maintain good oral health regular dental assessment is necessary for all individuals regardless of their age

What is periodontal disease?

Periodontal (gum) disease is an infection of the tissues which hold the teeth in place. As we get older we are more prone to periodontal disease if we do not maintain good oral hygiene and get our teeth cleaned on a regular basis

What is deep cleaning and why do I need it?

When I do a complete periodontal assessment of your mouth i.e. record the pocket depths which are spaces between your teeth and gums and note clinical attachment loss it will help to decide what type of cleaning you need. Clinical attachment loss of more than 4-5mm will be an indication for a deeper cleaning also known as scaling and root planing. This will be done in quadrants and will require more time.

What is dry mouth? How does it affect my oral health?

Dry mouth in dental terms is known as Xerostomia. It is a common salivary dysfunction found in older adults especially due to medications such as anti anxiety agents, anticholinergic agents, anti histamines, and chemotherapy drugs. Xerostomia can lead to poor oral health by increasing instances of carious lesions in mouth. We can discuss your symptoms and together come up with a treatment plan which works for you

What is SDF?

SDF is silver diamine fluoride is a liquid non invasive medicine which is used to prevent and arrest caries from spreading to other teeth. This is a great option to arrest caries without using a drill and just may be the right option for you. If you are interested I would love to discuss this with you.
